Chapter 29 - Cousin Esure to the rescue
"Half-an-hour?" said Wizzie. "That's LOADS of time, isn't it? I mean the esure.com adverts only last for a minute or something!"
"Durr, dogbrain!" said Mr Mouse. (He is SO RUDE sometimes! Honestly!!) "You have to film a whole BUNCH of stuff to have enough for that minute - haven't you ever seen those videos about making movies? Take after take after take!! There's getting the lighting and the cameras right, there's moving from one bit of the film set to the next bit, there's making sure nothing falls down or breaks - anything can go wrong, and it usually does!"
He shook his head sadly. "It certainly did with me!"
"So how did Cousin Esure get on?" asked Dot - though she knew the answer already really (just like you do!)
"Oh he was BRILLIANT!" said Mr Mouse proudly. "He's the star of our family now. One of the commercials is really complicated - you know the one where he has to drive the car and smash it up? He did it all FIRST TIME! AND he did the driving himself, too!"
"Did he have a licence?" asked Wiz. "Or did he have to get special pawmission?"
"VERY funny!" snarled Mr Mouse. "We were on a film set, dummy! Don't need a licence for somewhere like that - it's not on the road." He shook his head. "Anyway, we did all those bits in ONE TAKE, every time - none of that "It'll be all right on the night" stuff for Cousin Esure."
"And then?" asked Dot. "How much time did you have left?"
"Well. The car one was kinda complicated" said Mr Mouse. "Took a while. So even with Cousin E. doing so well, we still only had 15 minutes left for the other one we had to do. This was the one all about how a computer mouse wasn't really a computer mouse, but somewhere for Cousin Esure to hide till you needed him to pop out and fix you up with some insurance. You know the one!"
Dot grinned and nodded. It was her fave.
"Cousin E. had to get out of the mouse - it was a tight fit too - and then go round standing in front of different things which kinda showed what people used their computers for when they should be giving him the chance to get them some cool insurance stuff" Mr Mouse went on. "It was REALLY difficulto - lots of different lines to remember, and he had to act really well - being sassy about the other stuff people do. Meant they had to keep moving the cameras to different places - in front of an old photo of folks from days gone by, next to a mug, along the keyboard - we all held our breath when he was walking in sunglasses and big yellow flippers along the keyboard - that was about insuring your holidays in case anything went wrong - he even had to do this kinda dance on the keyboard. He got it all right, first time, every time! I tell you he was just EXCELLENTO!"
He stopped, and then said a typical Mr Mouse thing. "Mind you, I coulda been too! With just a bit more luck... "
"So... how much time did you have left after that?" asked Dot.
"TWO minutes, and we still had the last bit to do - a biggie as well - where he lies on the top of the computer screen and says "The money you can save with esure.com can make you one happy bunny... and me - one happy mouse!" That was it... but we had like nearly NO time by now... Reg the caretaker was standing there with his big watch in his hand, you could almost hear it ticking!"
Mr Mouse took out his big red and white spotted handkerchief and wiped his forehead. "It was SO tense! We were THAT close! Everyone was holding their breath and crossing claws and paws, even the weasels on lighting. Helen the make-up gerbil had her eyes closed and was praying - I could see her mouth moving... then Samira goes "ACTION", Cousin Esure says the line and then - DIS-ASTER!!!!"
