How Dot, Wizzie and Mr Mouse saved the Eden Project - with the help of
their friend Evie Eden!

"This is wild!" gasped Mr Mouse, looking round at the wonderful plants and flowers that stretched away as far as the eye could see, under the glittering ceiling of the great dome arching high above their heads.

"Isn't it though?" said Evie proudly. "And this is just a part of only one of our giant Biomes."

Just then the gang heard footsteps. Without a word they all ducked down behind the gently waving branches of a huge fern close by. Just in time - it was Tim Smit again, looking more worried than ever. He strode up, his eyes fixed on the path, chewing his lower lip. Under his arm was a laptop computer.

As he came near to where they were all hiding he seemed to see someone, and stopped, putting the laptop down on a little table next to an office hidden away among the fantastic plants that crowded everywhere in the Biome. Plugging the laptop in and logging it on, he called out: "Robin! Robin! Got a moment...? We need to..." and was gone, vanishing into the emerald forest that filled the Biome.

Cautiously, Dot, Wiz and Mr Mouse came out from their hiding place. But just as they did so, they saw the screen of the laptop flicker and jump - and a shadowy shape shot across it. Beady little eyes - whiskers - a long, long tail - and then it was gone.

Dot almost jumped out of her skin. "Did you see that Wizzie?" she said in a worried voice.

Wizzie bared his teeth in a snarl. "I most certainly did!" he replied. "There's only one... "

But just then a little voice came from behind them.

"Diddleyp... diddley... I... I don't feel very well... " it said. The three friends turned back to where they'd been hiding with Evie - and Dot's heart leapt into her throat when she saw what had happened to the little creature.

A terrible change had come over poor Evie. She was lying on her back, hardly moving - hardly breathing at all. Her big eyes fluttered open as she saw Dot, and then closed again. She tried to smile at her new friends but couldn't.

Worst of all though, was what was happening to her leafy little body...it was turning from its normal delicate green colour, to a shade of faded brown - as if the life was draining away from her, like the leaves that die in the autumn. But it wasn't autumn - not in the Biome.

"Evie!" called Dot, her eyes filling with tears. "What's the matter? What's happening to you? Please speak to us!"

With a great effort, the little creature opened her eyes. "This is... what's been... happening... I... I... always show it... first...air is... too bad now... " Then her eyes closed again, as if she'd fallen asleep.

Mr Mouse smacked his paws together. "I get it! This kid is like...like you know they used to take canaries down coal mines, 'coz they'd kinda show first when the air got bad? Right? Evie can do that for all these plants here - and what hits her first will hit them next!"

Dot wiped her eyes. "We've got to do something! Remember what Tim Smit said that first time? If we don't do something these fantastic plants will all die, and so will Evie!"

Just as she spoke, Wizard let out a great bark of rage. He was standing still as a post, staring at the laptop screen. He growled fiercely. "There's the problem Dot!" he snarled. "Right there! Come on! We've got to get back on the Net - there's some house cleaning to do!!"

With that, Wizzie leapt forward - giving Dot only just enough time to grab hold of his lead and scoop up Mr Mouse. In a split second the three friends were zooming back through the computer screen, with Wizard barking furiously as they plunged back down the fibre-optic alleyways of their Internet world!
